Do kids even know about Tootsie Pops anymore?
A lot of you reading this may never have even seen one of the “how many licks” commercials before!
Here’s a YouTube link for those of you who haven’t seen it. Yeah, it’s from the ’70s but Tootsie Pops rode that marketing campaign long and hard, well into the ’90s. And not, like, keeping the theme going through new commercials. They mostly just ran the same damn commercials for 20, maybe 30 years.
Because you don’t mess with success, baby!
First of all, Tootsie Pops rule. It’s a fruit (or chocolate) flavored sucker with a Tootsie Roll in the middle. What’s not to love about that? They’re great.
And second, those commercials were on point.
If you come out with something in the ’70s and it still works in the ’80s and ’90s, then you’ve got a hit on your hands. Those Tootsie Pops commercials are basically the David Bowie of candy marketing, if you think about it.
